There are more than 40,000 men and women locked up in North Carolina prisons. Of these inmates, 98 percent will eventually re-enter society. LeJhoyn Holland and Bill Rasor were released from the state prison in Hillsborough, North Carolina, in the summer of 2009; each had served 25 years of a life sentence for first-degree murder. They face long odds. Sixty-five percent of ex-offenders return to prison. Against the Tide follows Holland and Rasor from the day of release, through the challenges and choices they meet in their transition back into society. The film also shows the vital role of support teams in the re-entry of these two men.
